The
Mysterious Closed-Mouthed Catfish (Beforehand, make two stuffed catfish, putting several baby catfish in the mouth of one. Keep the baby catfish concealed until they make their entrance near the end of the play. A lunch bag or a lunchbox is also needed.) Andy: Hi, Harry. Long time no see. What have you been doing? Harry: Mmmm. (Make noises like trying to talk with your moth closed.) Andy: Whats that? I didnt understand you. Harry: Mmmmm. Andy: Not talking today, huh? Harry: Mmmmmmmm. Andy: Well, how about eating some lunch? You can have half of my seaweed sandwich. Harry: Mmmmm. (Shake head from side to side as in no.) Andy: No? Not eating today either? Harry: Mmmmmm. Andy: You sure are acting weird today, Harry. Are you sick? Harry: Hm-um. Mmmm. Andy: Not sick. Well, whats wrong? Have you got a toothache? Harry: Hm-um. Andy: No. Did you get a fishhook stuck in your mouth? Harry: Hm-um. Andy: No. Gee, Harry, I give up. Come on and tell me. Oh! I know! Youre hiding something! Come on and tell me whatcha hiding? Harry: Mmmmm. Umm. Oh! Oh! (Open mouth and shake out baby fish.) They hatched! Andy, my eggs hatched! Thats why I couldnt open my mouth, not to talk, not even to eat. I was caring for my eggs! Andy: Wow! (really awed) Harry: Hey, Andy, meet my kids! Andy: Wow! Harry: Hey, Andy, can I still have half of your seaweed sandwich? Im starved! Andy: Uh, yeah. Wow! (still in awe) * |
