The
Monkey Zoo This skit is written so that you can use people acting like monkeys or you can use posters, pictures, puppets, etc. The tour guide should be a person. Children may either sit as you change the monkeys on stage, or you can set the monkeys up at different places and have the children move from one to the next as in a real guided tour. Tour guide: Well, everyone, here we are at the world-famous ______ [insert name of school, church, family] Monkey Zoo! I hope youll enjoy this tour. But before we begin, I must ask you not to throw any food to the monkeys as they are all on very special diets. Now, lets begin! The first monkeys you see here are called Rhesus monkeys. And no, theyre not made of chocolate and peanut butter. [U.S. joke referring to Reeses candies] Rhesus monkeys are very popular with our vistors. They are also very noisy just listen to them! They love to jump, fight, argue, chatter and swing. Thats why theyre so much fun to watch. The Rhesus monkeys do argue and, well, sort of make monkeys of themselves. But they dont stay angry. They quickly calm down and become friends again. In a few minutes, theyll be picking bugs off of each other like the best of friends. See! [Move to next exhibit.] This monkey is called a spider monkey. He has long, thin arms and a full tail. The spider monkey looks pretty fat, but hes really just furry. They like to spend their day swinging from their tails and picking fruit with their hands and feet. Before we visit the last monkeys on our tour, Id better warn you to get ready to put your hands over your ears. Are you ready? [Move to next exhibit.] These monkeys are called howler monkeys for a very good reason. They dont just chatter like the Rhesus monkeys, they howl, and they howl very loudly. Howler monkeys have a special kind of voice box that makes them so loud. Just listen! Its enough to make your ears hurt and give you a headache. Can you imagine living with a creature like this all day long? They remind me of my cousin Maude. That girl talked all day long. But the worst part was that she was always saying bad things about other people and hurting their feelings. The words she said hurt so much that no one like to be near her. There are other people who sound like these monkeys, too. They talk loudly but never say anything pleasant to hear. I can sure understand what the Bible means when it says to be careful about the words we say. I would hate to sound like one of these howler monkeys, wouldnt you? Well, this is the end of our tour, ladies and gentlemen. I hope you enjoyed it. Do come back and visit us again. Bye, now!
