Quincy Quail and Chicken Noodle Soup
by Sandra Harris

Find out how Quincy avoids becoming an ingredient in a pot of chicken noodle soup.

This skit has three characters: a quail, a chicken and a hunter.

Setting: Quincy Quail is scratching about for insects and seeds to eat. Enter Charley Chicken, running about in no particular direction, obviously distraught and not knowing what to do.

Quincy: Hey! Slow down, Charley. You’re running around like a chicken with its head cut off!

Charley: Oh, don’t say that, Quincy. There’s a hunter after me who wants to cut off my head and make me into chicken noodle soup! Oh, help, help! What am I gonna do?

Quincy: Well, the first thing you need to do is calm down.

Charley: Calm down! At a time like this? You must be crazy! How could anyone stay calm at a time like this? Oh no! Here he comes! We gotta get outa here! Come on, Quincy! Watcha just sittin’ there for? That hunter will turn you into quail stew!

Quincy: Don’t you worry. I know just what to do. If we stay here in this tall grass real quiet like and don’t move an inch, that hunter will never find us.

Charley: You really are crazy! I’m not stickin’ around to see you or me say good-bye to our heads. I’m outa here. ‘Bye.

[Exit Charley. Enter hunter, who looks around, nearly stepping on Quincy, then exits without seeing anything to catch.]

Quincy: Now that he’s ggone, I’ll get back to my breakfast. Poor Charley. Sure hope he makes it. Too bad his mother didn’t teach him to sit still and be quiet. God always seems to protect me when I’m quiet and trust Him.

[bwack, bwack! – sounds from off stage]

Quincy: Oh, I hope that wasn’t Charlie. He should have stayed still with me and let God give that hunter a can of chicken noodle soup for lunch.
